Wind

Wind speed is forecast in knots.

Winds

West to Southwesterly 15 to 20 knots tending west to northwesterly for a period during the afternoon.

This is the average speed.

Beware: Wind gusts can be up to 40% stronger than the forecast wind speed.

To work out the maximum gust add half again.

Lets look at the maths.

Forecast speed is 20 knots
half of 20 is 10
20 + 10 = 30
Maximum gust is 30 knots

Forecast speed is 10 knots
half of 10 is 5
10 + 5 = 15
Maximum gust is 15 knots
